Applications are now open for the next British Veterinary Association Junior Vice President (JVP), who will go on to become President in 2024.

BVA is calling for dedicated and experienced members to apply to join our officer team for three years from September 2023. The successful individual will spend their first year as JVP, go on to become President in September 2024 and then conclude their officer tenure as Senior Vice President in 2025.

Applications are welcome from all veterinary surgeon BVA members. What the BVA is looking for is energy, enthusiasm, experience, and passion from someone who will represent and champion the views and interests of BVA members and the wider UK veterinary profession to government, politicians, and the media; forge and maintain excellent relationships with BVA’s stakeholders; and lead on a portfolio of priority issues.

The role is open to all BVA members at all stages of their career and from across all sectors of the profession. As part of our commitment to promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, BVA is particularly keen to receive applications from vets in under-represented groups.

The total commitment is three years as a BVA officer followed by three years serving as a past president on BVA Council (four meetings per year). It is a paid role, with access to central London accommodation during the presidential year and full media training and support is provided throughout the time in role.

BVA President Malcolm Morley said: “It’s a huge honour to champion what’s really important to BVA members and the UK veterinary profession to key stakeholders both in the UK and on the international stage.

“Being a BVA Officer is hard work, but it’s incredibly rewarding and you’re well supported by the BVA team on everything from policy to media work. I would urge anyone who has a passion for animal health and welfare, and our wonderful veterinary profession, to consider putting themselves forward to join our Officer team.”

Applications for the next JVP are confidential. They will be reviewed by the BVA Electoral College, which will make a recommendation to BVA Council.

How to apply

BVA members who are interested in applying can find the role description and application form on the BVA website. If you have any questions, or would like to arrange an informal conversation with an existing BVA Officer prior to submitting your application, get in touch with BVA’s Policy & Governance Director, Amelia Findon on [email protected].

The deadline for applications is Monday 16 January 2023.
