We received over 400 entries from around the world and we were thrilled with the high-quality and unique images that were submitted by our members.
Last year we hosted the inaugural and highly successful BVA photo competition. We received over 400 entries from around the world and we were thrilled with the high-quality and unique images that were submitted by our members.
These images showcased the best of the veterinary profession, highlighting the bond between veterinarian and animal. The photographs showed a tangible insight into our members’ lives and promoted the huge variety of roles, locations and interests the profession has.
We are delighted to be hosting the photography competition again this year – the competition is open to anyone who is a BVA member, you could win £250 in John Lewis vouchers and have your image displayed at the 2017 members’ day. Our categories are:
We would especially like to see native and domestic species found in the UK. Across both categories we’d like to see images that promote responsible animal ownership and/or interaction, as well positive animal health and welfare outcomes.
See our winning images from 2016 to help you find inspiration. You can also view all of last year’s entries on BVA’s Flickr.
The winner of the ‘Wonderful world of animals’ 2016 category was Stephen Powles, a companion animal vet from Devon, with his picture of an Egyptian fruit bat in flight.
“The bat was one of a large roost of many thousand deep in a cave on Mount Elgon, Kenya. The bats exit the roost via a relatively small opening making it the perfect location in which to photograph them.”
Equine vet Karen Coumbe won the ‘You and your work’ 2016 category with her photo of an operation on an infected horse’s hoof.
“I was encouraged to enter the competition because I am fascinated by the amazing things I am privileged to observe in my day to day work, many of which provide exciting photo-opportunities.”
Submit your photographs today to be with your chance of winning. You can find more details about the competition, including T&Cs and more information about the 2017 judging panel
The 2017 photo competition is open for submissions and closes midnight 19 August.
