Roundtable

We brought together stakeholders from academia, practice, business, and the media at a special roundtable to discuss the issue, and used those insights to produce a Vet Record supplement analysing the issue of pet obesity.

We’re also presenting our findings at Europe’s premier event for vets, the London Vet Show 2019, to inspire thousands of vets to spread the word and promote healthy body weight in pets.

BVA corporate partnerships

We work with companies to help them brainstorm ideas and develop answers to some of the big issues facing the veterinary profession.

Many of us think that the solution to pet obesity is very simple, the reality is it’s a complex issue with complex causes with many stakeholders impacted by obesity or have a role to play in addressing the issue. Icon

Many of us think that the solution to pet obesity is very simple, the reality is it’s a complex issue with complex causes with many stakeholders impacted by obesity or have a role to play in addressing the issue.

Collaboration and partnership between key stakeholders like Mars and BVA, can play a really fundamental and important role in raising awareness around the issue and harnessing other stakeholders to do something important to address this issue."

Why we're doing this

Research is proving what vets have felt to be true for some time – pet obesity in small animals is an escalating issue, posing a serious threat to welfare.

The PFMA’s 2019 Obesity Report highlighted that 51% of dogs, 44% of cats and 29% of small mammals are overweight or obese and our Voice of the Veterinary Profession survey showed vets are seriously concerned about pet obesity.

With Mars Petcare’s mission being to create a better world for pets, this partnership aims to make a serious contribution to the issue.
